Yesterday I went to see an higschool friend who works on the development of robotic arms for the ITER fusion reactor. The place was located in an beautiful 14th century castle, surrounded by a large park. He gave me a tour trough the building, where I saw a the 80MW fusion laser (one of the most powerful around now) which they were designing. Sadly I wasn't allowed beyond a window, due to security restrictions.
After that he took me to his department where I got t play yenga, a xylophone and some other things while using the prototypes of the remote handling arms.
Here is a vid that demonstrates the arms and the virtual environment (the idea is that if they can make the controller work with a virtual world that it also won't be hard to do it with real arms. Plus this is less dangerous to play with)
Te video is not the most interesting thing in the world, but it does show the idea.
All with all, an awesome day
