What is a chip inside the calculator or any type of technology? What is a chip? My friend dissected a calculator this afternoon for no apparent reason, and inside I saw this green board about a size of a graham cracker, and it had holes, and lines that connected to each other. My friend said it was a chip, but what is it's function? And when did they start making these, also can they be man made? _______________________________ yahoo keyword tool ~ overture ~ traffic estimator ~ adwords traffic estimator

Circuit board? When I have no idea, you'll find them in a lot of things.

These things are man made, In a calculator it's usually a processor with an ALU ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_logic_unit) And an instruction decoder( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decoder), together with a small ROM and/or RAM memory (probably ROM though) All these things consist of transistors ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transistor)

At least my reply is meaningful, compared to your picture which says absolutely nothing! Ha!

Chips are small worlds, inhabited by tiny sentient creatures. These creatures occupy both the sides of right and wrong, but most of them tend to be wrong (viruses, bugs, errors) But luckily we have good creatures who shield us from the potential harm that the malevolent ones could cast down upon us. Sometimes however evil prevails and it corrupts the cirquit, this can mean one of two things; -You board is corrupted. This might be fixed by a sweep/format. -Your board spirals down into chaos and eventually collapses. You can throw away the device at this point. So be cautious, and watch out not to release the evil from the calculator!

Also communists originated from these chips.

Aaah, I got to tell my professor digital circuits this, I bet he'll be amazed by this new insight!
