As most of us seem to agree, I'll spice it up a bit.
What if one would transplant the brain of a person to another body.
Would it be the same person?
Ecample: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2007&p=20568#p20568
Of if a brain would be isolated from the body.
Example2: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2006&p=20566#p20566

That can't be said, since it's impossible.

Both have been accomplished and those vids are the proof.

There have been instances of people receiving organs in transplants, and then showing characteristics of the donor, no? Like an interest in a certain type of music, or hobby.

Odd.

Yes, exactly.
That's the odd part.

I've have pieces of someone else in me right now and I haven't changed at all.... If it was true that your consciousness is altered in this way it would happen to everyone receiving transplants but it doesn't.

The consciousness clearly resides in the brain and to prove this with an experiment that can be repeated everytime. Take some LSD or give it to someone and observe as the drug physically alters the brain chemistry resulting in altered consciousness.

Another form of proof is the lobotomy which completely removes conscious thought that results in a non responsive catatonic state.

I think your personality is genetic or built up throughout your life, but is separate from your soul or consciousness or whatever

And these too?
They still have their own conciousness?

You're wrong and you can be proven wrong..... Consciousness can be altered by physical means and there is absolutely nothing but wishful thinking to suggest it is separate from the brain. All the evidence says the brain is where consciousness resides or rather is a byproduct of neurological interactions.

It doesn't really matter what people believe because the above is 100% factual.... consciousness is physical not metaphysical.

Yea, but that does not take away from the fact that it has been done :P

It was done and the monkey lived to realize that the doctor [!@#$] him up and gave him a new body. The dog was clearly alert as well.... That's because both brains were preserved and kept alive.... bet if you started up a body without a head it does nothing but maybe flop if you zap the nerves.

I don't know how people can't believe that the consciousness resides in the brain.

I do believe that it rests in the brain but not 100%
As the brain is also controlled by a delicate balance of hormones, created in various parts of the body.

Not really... But it is altered by them but it can also be altered by other peoples hormones (pheromones).

They do it very much like drugs do it.
