I have a similar problem as both my real grandad is dead and my other grandad's dad no one knew of, so that's two links cut off and probably lines that i'll never be able to research.

Without using genealogy online I have always knew my family history at least on my dads side because each generation added to the 'family bible' before passing it on.... This book hasn't been in my possession for quite some time and due to it's age I donated it to a local museum..... Anyway with it I traced my family back to feudal Scotland in the Highlands nearly 1100 years ago when the clans began to really emerge as powers in Scotland. The book is full of battles won and lost, generations long gone and rich Scottish history. I thought the book to important to be in my private collection after all these years of caring for it. That and the book which contains my direct ancestors has thousands of name entries now and through the names of these clansmen/women will our name live as long as the land from which it came.

There is also a second book from my grandmother which chronicles that part of my family from Ireland as well....

Regardless of how old I may be or the fact I cannot have children, I still carry on the legacy of my family and will long after this conversation is forgotten through my deeds for as long as i keep living which is gonna be a very long time.

It's important for people to know and experience history even though history has changed a bit with passing generations.

That's amazing, I wish my family had something like this.

Maybe they do and you just don't know... Perhaps if it exists it was passed down to a different lineage of people from the same ancestors.

A lot of the Scottish clansman who immigrated to Canada kept our family records and traditions alive and still do.... Clan gatherings in the maritime provinces are a common occurrence but many young people seem to not be up on tradition anymore.

I had the same reaction as the Boss to this, i wish i had one too! you're opretty lucky ganja! I bet the books are pretty interesting. The only thing close that I have are photos and maps of my great grandparents when they lived in nigeria, never met them for obvious reasons lol. Jeez it's all so damn difficult and ''out there''! hiring an expert would be pretty expensive Boss, and why bother searching if you can't say you found it all yourself, that takes the fun out of it lol

But at least you would feel more connected with the whole situation, and uncover things for yourself and work on info that you think might be wrong. at least hire and expert to ''help'' rather than ''do''

Wow someone getting in touch must have been pretty random and strange.
