my deviant is: http://www.bonestonne.deviantart.comI use combinations of Photoshop 7/CS2 as well as GIMP in OS X/Ubuntu/XP. its a hell of a combo for designing, and having a tablet now makes it that much cooler. i haven't put anything new up in a while, but i haven't had the time >.< thats my favorite and most moving. full text is available on deviant art.

i got a bunch of 3 KB Gear Jam Studio tablets for $25. sounds killer, but they aren't the best you can find. drivers for windows are also sketchy, i only use it in linux.
linux might become my primary if i can emulate a mac shell better, or fully emulate audio editing programs. learn enough about linux and its all you need.
using the GIMP or GIMPShop, do a rotational motion blur changing the focus to the word you want left alone. in photoshop you'd use the history brush and just change the focal point. i haven't used photoshop much lately though. i'll get back to it soon though. need the time, and starting after finals for this semester i'll be full of it.

imagine having any computer you want, your dream computer, quad core, 4gb of RAM, graphics like no other.
with windows, everything is preset, and unless you like to mess around, it stays that way. with OS X, you're strictly stuck with what Apple Inc. sells, so quad core + 4gb of RAM + great graphics is upwards of $2000USD
with Linux, your limitations are set as high as your knowledge, and even with that in mind, your limitations don't stop there, because with the internet as a tool and resource, you can learn about everything you want to know. Also, over the past two years, the family of Linux operating systems [because there are many different kernels, bases, and builds available] has made advances incredibly far. There are now commonly and fully supported emulators for Windows, meaning you can install a Windows based application and use it in Linux with little problem. Some applications have flaws, Photoshop CS2 leaves a preset file when you close it, which has to be deleted every time, or the application wont start, and other applications just fail to work properly, so it is a toss of the coin, however you're given all of these resources to use. Many European governments rely on Unix for firewalls, software, security and the like, so its more than just fun and games, its down to what needs to happen.
I personally use Linux because of how well it performs. I use Ubuntu on both my laptop and my new computer, and it supports wireless internet, i don't have excessive battery problems with my laptop, and it performs very well. On my desktop, I've been able to expand a lot, however everything comes at a price. My 17" monitor was not just recognized by Linux, so I had to add the 1280x1024px resolution to the list, where as Windows and OS X had recognized the screen and flawlessly migrated. Hardware is generally supported, and a quick google can give you a more definite answer. But there's no saying what Linux is best because there are so many different distributions [nicknamed "distros"] that are available, from Sabayon to Linux Mint, there are so many to try, and many more being developed and created.
Most versions of Linux have Live CD/Installation CDs that you can download and burn yourself, which are the best way to start, rather than just installing it, use the Live CD which will run off the CD completely without installing anything. You can then test some software as well as get the definite answer as to hardware compatibility.
Just think of never needing Anti-Virus Software, Anti-Spyware Software, and a Registry on your computer. Apple Inc. came close because OS X is a fully compliant Unix based OS, but its not quite the real deal. There's nothing that you cannot modify in Linux.
