every culture had it's own measure system, but almost all of em were replaced with the metric system.
the only in europe who rejected the metric system was England, and with that it's colonies (like the US). that's why you still use "english measures" as how they are called. inches were "thumb lengths" at first, but since everyone had different thumbs they made an set lenght for it. just like the "foot"
china had a very developed measuring system for everything around the year 1000, especially their time system was far more precise and logical. they changed their time system to the "european"(i tought) but they still use their own way of looking at the time> 12am = 6am. more logical in my opinion. i don't know if china still uses it's own measuring system, but chinese measures are still to be found since they were saved in several documents, just like arabian, egyptian, roman and greek.
